Philippians 2 and the Ancient Christian Poem That Redefines Power

We explore how this ancient hymn describes Jesus as truly equal with God yet choosing the path of humility, surrender, and self giving love. We look at how Paul uses this poem to call the Philippian church to “have the same attitude as Christ,” to treat others as more important than themselves, and to rethink what it means to be saved as an ongoing healing of our lives. Along the way we talk about • Why Paul ties the “mind of Christ” to an ancient Christian poem • How this poem quietly confronts emperors, conquerors, and every abusive use of religious power • Why real authority in the way of Jesus looks like letting go of control, not clinging to it • What “work out your salvation” means when salvation is understood as healing • Why you should not judge Jesus by the abuse done in his name If you are spiritually curious, skeptical about church, or wrestling with what to do with Jesus, this is for you.
